Hello,
I can’t believe Christmas is nearly upon us, but as we celebrate, what better time can there be to take a look back over the past year and plan for 2012.
Some particular highlights have been:
-
building the Keyfund team
-
partnering with new Licensees
-
launching Keyfund Newcastle
-
building on our Impact Analysis work
-
winning the North East VCS award for Outstanding Organisation
-
being recognised on a national scale through the Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund
-
graduating from the Impetus Venture Philanthropy portfolio after 5 years
-
securing funding from new corporate and charitable sources
-
running 6 successful Keyfund BLASTs
-
launching our sparkly new website and data hub
And most importantly, continuing to help our members deliver fantastically effective youth work. Phew!
Since April, well over 3000 young people used Keyfund. Nearly 100 projects reached stage 3 or 4. Achieving this level of skills development is a phenomenal achievement by young people and facilitators alike.
At a time when more and more young people are struggling with barriers to progression and finding themselves out of employment, education or training, we want to reach out to as many of them as possible, giving them the opportunity to develop the personal skills and confidence to achieve their potential. So why not make it your New Year’s Resolution to register a new group or help your existing groups to progress further through the 4 stages, helping to shape their future ambitions.
And with that, I’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Hannah

Chantelle and Chloe at the Royal Albert Hall
|
|

Last week Keyfund winner Chantelle was “over the moon” to go to the Royal Albert Hall for Gary Barlow’s concert in aid of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. Chantelle told us how Keyfund impacted upon on her: “It has made me the person I am, by giving me the opportunity to make new friends, take me off the streets, calm me down and now I go to college.”
For Chantelle and lucky friend Chloe, it was their first time ever to London and Chloe’s first trip on a train, so the speed of the city and the tube was a real eye opener. The concert was “fabulous”, with performances from Olly Murs, Marcus from X Factor, Jason Donovan and of course Gary. They sang the National Anthem to the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry and thought the Royal Albert Hall was beautiful. The girls took in the sights of Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben, the London Eye and the Christmas lights on Oxford Street before arriving home exhausted, but euphoric from an experience they will never forget.

Did you know that when you log onto our new website, you can view all your groups’ information, past and present? Whether for a trip down memory lane, to report back to a manager or to check where you are up to, you can see the projects, young people involved, look at panel reports and evaluations as well as check ‘before’ and ‘after’ skills wheel scores to see how the Keyfund journey has helped your young people develop. We think it’s pretty useful stuff!
While you’re on there, have a look in the Document Library of your network area for helpful resources like icebreakers, FAQs and ideas to prepare for panel. As it’s the season of goodwill, coming soon we’ll soon be adding activities to help you work with your groups to explore each of the 12 Keyfund skills. Finally, to show off your brilliant work, Rossie would love to receive any reports or case studies or quotes you might have.

The magnificent Mahima
|
|

Aged 15, Mahima got involved with Keyfund when her group Urban Giirlzs developed their skills in a dance project. They bought a video camera to play back their performances and see where to improve. Enterprising Mahima went on to run dance lessons at Dance City using the profits for room hire and to help anyone who couldn’t afford to go.
Impressed by her dedication and talent, Mahima was a natural choice for Keyfund’s steering group for the Big, Bigger, Biggest project, funded by The Big Lottery. Mahima and other young people put on a celebration gig with headline act Joe McElderry for over 1200 young people in the North East. Mahima helped organise the auditions for 8 supporting acts of home grown talent and designed the beautiful Winter Extravaganza logo which was made into a 30ft banner.
Now studying sceinces at A level to become a surgeon, Mahima is looking for a part-time job and plans to volunteer at Thomas Bewick school which her younger sister attends.
Little wonder that Mahima recently won Excelsior Academy’s prestigious Tony Pattison Award for Contribution to the Community.

This year, Keyfund head office will be closing from December 22nd until January 3rd as we all deserve a Christmas break. If you make any submissions online during this time, we’ll be able to process them as soon as we get back. Paperwork sent via post or fax will take a little longer.
If you’d like to sign up for training, you can do this online too, and don’t forget to keep your eye out on the website for our special offer bursary places.
Wishing you very happy festivities from all at Keyfund!
